Privacy policy

This policy explains how MotoWave ("we", "us") handles personal data collected through motowave.in, the Founding Riders waitlist and the Founding Captains programme. We aim to follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its rules. It does not cover the MotoWave app itself, which will have its own policy.

What we collect

• Waitlist sign-up: your name, phone number or email address, and city.
• Optional details: your bike, whether you own a Bluetooth headset, how you ride, your club or crew name.
• Founding Captain applications: name, phone, email, city, club/crew, Instagram handle (optional), crew size, ride frequency, ride type, headsets used, and anything you write in your application.
• Referral data: your referral code, who referred you (if anyone) and how many people joined through your link.
• Technical data: a one-way hashed version of your IP address (we never store the raw address), a random device identifier kept in your browser, and how you found us (campaign tags, referring website).
• Consent records: whether you agreed to receive updates, and when.

Why we use it

• To keep your place on the waitlist, calculate your queue position and invite you to the beta.
• To credit referrals, run the monthly headset giveaway and review Founding Captain applications.
• To send you updates by email or WhatsApp — only if you opted in. You can withdraw at any time.
• To prevent spam, bots and referral fraud.
• To understand which channels bring riders to us (aggregated statistics).

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for anything unrelated to MotoWave.

Public information

When you share your invite link, the referral page shows your first name only. Waitlist totals and city counts are shown as aggregates. Giveaway winners are announced by first name and city only, with their consent.

Cookies and analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, which does not use cookies or collect personal data. If you click "Allow" in our consent banner, we also load Google Analytics 4 and the Meta pixel to measure our advertising. You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser. We store a few items in your browser's local storage (your waitlist token, referral code, device identifier and campaign source) so the site can show your rider number and credit referrals correctly.

Who processes your data

We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf:

• Cloudflare (website hosting, database, bot protection)
• Resend or Brevo (email delivery)
• Plausible Analytics; Google and Meta only with your consent
• WhatsApp (Meta) for the community and updates you opt into

Some providers may process data outside India, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist data until 12 months after the MotoWave public launch, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever is sooner. If you join the beta, your app account is governed by the app's privacy policy. Anonymous, aggregated statistics may be kept longer.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what data we hold about you and correct it;
• delete your data and remove you from the waitlist;
• stop sending you updates (every email has an unsubscribe link);
• nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity.

Email privacy@motowave.in from the address you signed up with, or with your phone number and city. We respond within 30 days.

Age

The waitlist and giveaways are for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, IP addresses are hashed, and access to the database is limited to the founders. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

Grievance officer

We'll update this page when things change and note the date at the top. Material changes will be emailed to opted-in members.
